PROJECT OVERVIEW

ideas* were engaged by the Alex Fraser Group to provide the detailed design and engineering of their new multi-million-dollar state-of-the-art recycling facility in Laverton, Victoria.

Ideas* won an “Engineers Australia” engineering excellence award in 2009 for the project in Industrial development and manufacturing.

RMIT University recently completed a Life Cycle Analysis comparison of Alex Fraser’s crushed concrete aggregate with traditionally quarried stone aggregate. The findings show that Alex Fraser’s recycled concrete materials have 65% less carbon impact than the equivalent freshly mined quarry materials.

“It’s not just best plant in Victoria or Australia, this ranks up there with the very best plants, of its type, anywhere in the world” John Brumby – Former Premier, Victorian Government.

Between 1987 – 2008 the Alex Fraser Group recycled 20 million tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. The 600 TPH plant will help AFG reach its target of 40 million tonnes by 2014. Every 20 million tonnes of C&D waste recycled and used in this way saves the CO2 greenhouse gas equivalent of taking 30,000 cars off the road for one year.

The unique collaborative approach enabled the project to be fast-tracked and installed within 10 months of the first designs being put on paper.
